My mom likes to throw three or four different family events all on the same day just to get them all out of the way, and, recently, we had planned out to have this serious conversation about my aunt who has schizophrenia and talk about where she’s going to be living and her long term care, and somehow that turned into a birthday party for my sister’s boyfriend.  So I pulled my mom aside and said, “Mom, I know Grandpa’s brother, Uncle Dale, recently passed away, and I was thinking after the memorial service we could have a Quincenera.  Everybody has been really upset and taking it really hard, what if we brought in a piñata?
